Bob the seagull, an environmental mascot

A playful mascot created to bring personality and accessibility to Clean my Calanques’ environmental awareness campaigns.

INTRODUCTION

Bob the Seagull is a custom mascot created for Clean my Calanques, a Marseille-based association dedicated to protecting the Calanques and raising awareness about environmental issues. Bob brings a more playful dimension to the association’s educational and awareness content.

GOALS

Create a recognizable and approachable playful character that could make environmental messaging more engaging while giving Clean my Calanques a flexible visual asset for social media and awareness campaigns.

CHALLENGE

The challenge was to make environmental awareness feel approachable and engaging without losing the seriousness of the issues being communicated. The mascot also needed to be expressive and versatile enough to work across static and animated formats.

Research

Research focused on local wildlife, Mediterranean visual references, environmental communication, and expressive character design to create a mascot that felt playful while remaining connected to the identity of the Calanques.

PROCESS_02

Strategy

Bob was designed as a flexible communication character, with multiple poses and expressions allowing him to react to different topics, explain information, and interact with educational content across social media and video.

PROCESS_03

Design decisions

A simple, expressive character design was developed around the seagull as a recognizable symbol of the Mediterranean coast. A set of poses and expressions was created to give Bob a broad emotional range, while keeping his silhouette and visual language consistent across static illustrations and motion.
